Minutes from the last meeting, June 17, 2008 were reviewed and approved.
Officers of MELCA: President: Connie Finley , Vice President: Gail Martel (conference chair-woman), Secretary: Pam Houston, Treasurer: Sheila Kayser.
MELCA/WIC conference was discussed from last May and future plans for May 15, 2009. Confirmed speaker is Nancy Morhbacher IBCLC, co-author of The Breastfeeding Answer Book published by La Leche League. We discussed having one more speaker or the possibility of using local Lactation Consultants to present the basic breastfeeding track. Other presenters suggested were Lois Arnold and Karin Caldwell.
The conference will be held at the Holiday Inn Express and Conference Center in Saco.
Gail Martel (?) will look into finding a hospital to co-sponsor, perhaps Southern Maine Medical Center, Maine Medical Center or Central Maine Medical Center.
The journal Pediatrics (July 2008) has an interesting article on tongue tie written by Brian Palmer DDS.
